Introduction

The ENVIS Centre on ' Hazardous Wastes ' was established in 1993 at National Environmental Engineeering Research Institute (NEERI) , Nagpur with the financial assistance from the Ministry of Environment & Forests , Government of India. The Centre is functioning as a partner in the Environmental Information System (ENVIS) network spread all over the country , with the focal point at the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF) , New Delhi .The major topics covered / to be covered by the ENVIS Centre at NEERI on the thematic area are legislations , regulations and policies in the field of hazardous waste management , emerging technologies for hazardous waste management , important national / international activities / projects / developments , information resources ( websites , journals/books and databases ) and the organized / forthcoming events (conferences /workshops / training programmes, etc.). The MoEF provides a recurring grant every year depending on the availability of funds at the centre.
